Electric window stuck closed

Post by Aybesea »

Happened all of a sudden, one morning passenger window worked okay but later in day would not open. All i get is a clicking sound like a solinoid when both door switchs are used,Now i think its the motor regulator stuck so took panel off,What i need to know is will the regulator come out and go back in easily as i can not lower window to get to the glass clamp bolts.I am hoping to take regulater apart so i can regrease it all then hopefully it will work.
Sugestions please would be good on how to get round this problem.

It's probably a snapped wire between the door and the chassis. Check before you do anything else

Well i got as far as undoing all the bolts and screws, then came to a stop, reason being i need to take the window and tilt it forward so it comes out of the lifting arms then i can lower the regulator to get to the torx screws then check everything .The problem is because the window is stuck closed i cannot tilt the glass forward  Think i might phone a few vw garages and ask them.If i get it sorted ill update this post.

If you have the door panel off, then removing all the bolts between the frame will help, but what you really need to do is release the two clamps that hold the glass, then the glass can be removed.

I had a lazy passenger window with similar symptoms and removing / refitting the whole assembly with a little lubrication got the glass aligned and nice smooth operation again.

You can also fit the switch and ensure that the mechanism moves smoothly before refitting the door seal / trim.

Have not touched the window recently mainly cause of the weather, and as i have had no reason to open it at mo .I have got some new clamps and white runners to fit on just in case one is broke.I did go to VW breaker and he said as a last resort i will have to cut the cables .I am hoping that once the window clamps are loosened i will be able to pull those clamps down which should give me enough room to move the bolts upwards so they slide out of panel then take the motor out. When i get round to doing this (weather permitting) will split motor clean it out and replace with Moly slip grease. Yea i used Halfords silicone spray on the window glass channels when drivers window got a bit slow goinig upwards ,worked a treat no problems since.
Oh well hoping for a few hours of dry weather now. :)

One way to release this actually is if you can get to the motor screws you can undo the four little torx screws that hold the actual motor into it housing and pull it back and forth which should free the mechanism up

I remember doing this a while ago on my own

I thought of that so got my self a drill bit large enough to fit a torx bit through and undo the screws,as soon as weather changes i try that, got MOT soon so that at the mo going to check what or if anything needs fixing so thats the priority at the mo but will update asp on the window situation.

Well had another go at the stuck window but gave up again :( However i did have a vibration from gearbox or engine, had it checked not big ends etc so possibly it was inboard CV joints,I havent a garage so i decided to sell it as i did not want to use it and cause possibly more wear as it would not of got done till next spring and living out in the sticks(no buses) could not afford to have it break down on me.
I have now sold it and the new owner was told that it possibly could be the inboard CV joints.
I have now got a Polo 9N, 52 plate with 6months warranty so i am happy :D
