Engine timing markes on 1.4 2000 SE

Post by Aybesea »

i have had new hydraulic tappets put in the car plus new cambelt etc aswell. Now after a month and a trip down to Cornwall i have noticed with the bonnet up the engine vibrates when on idle where as before it was silky smooth.Cleaned out TB and replaced plugs etc but to not effect.
I hope to check the cam timing see if it was all lined up properly,However i do not really want to get under the car and start taking things off at this time of year.
I have noticed that there is a notch in the crankshaft pully(now painted white) and above also on the lower engine cover two marks with 0 and Z close to pully, i take it its 0 =TDC,if i line the 0 with the crank pully notch indent does that mean that the crankshaft shamfered mark is lined up with the "2 valve mark on the oil cover and not the 4 valve.
Can not find photo/description of the engine pully timing marks on the SOHC 8 valve in the Haynes manual only if the belt cover is off but they have them showing for the DOHC engine Haynes Section 2B.4 photo 3.4a -3.4b.are they the same has the SOHC egine got these marks above the pully

Just had another look, those timing marks are on the lower cover, just need to get a ring spanner for the crankshaft bolt so i can turn the pulley as a 1/2"socket and driver is to wide to fit in the gap, does anybody know the size of the pully crankshaft bolt,as it's to wet to get out under car to measure,Going to be raining all day

I think you'll find that a 19mm, 12 point ring spanner is the one that you need
