In the Market for a new GTI

In the market for new GTI. The car we had as a second car is being given to the daughter when she moves out so we have started looking to replace it.

We sat in loads of cars at Available car & ruled out loads of cars that were on the list like Fiesta, Focus, Leon etc.... Some cars were bloody awful. Anyway, after sitting in lots of cars we ended up at Motorpoint in derby & they had quite a few GTI's & I was quite shocked how cheap they were & the spec on them was amazing apart from the halogen headlights. Having sat in one we really really liked the Polo GTI so the uber economy car is out & the GTI is in. I considered the BlueGT but it seems about the same price.

Having done some research about motorpoint which didn't greatly worry me the thought of having 2 years warranty & naff halogens did so i have been speccing a car up on Broadspeed which comes out to quite a bit more than motorpoint but will have all the extras on it I want so the higher price is justified.

This is what I have specced on Broadspeed

£361 Climate
£214 Convenience Pack
£665 Navigation
£404 Parking pack - Cruise & park pack / rear view camera
£817 Sun roof
£342 Winter pack

£18,566 inc. fees & VAT

It's £2k more than the motorpoint one but this has LED lights, a sunroof, winter pack & rear camera & 3 years warranty so value wise it's on par really.

Anyone know where to go to get a better price or has anyone been into VW with armed with an online quote & had any joy?

When I ordered mine in january I priced it up on carwow and armed with that discount contacted my local dealer and they matched it. I got about a 10% discount. As the car had only just become available to order I was pretty happy with that. However months on the discounts are even better in certain places.
Definitely get one with LED lights, they look great and work well. Good luck.

Yup, got quotes from "carwow" + "drivethedeal" + "orangewheels" and maybe Broadspeed.

When I was seriously looking for a Polo 1.2TSI SEL, Broadspeed were not the cheapest - that might change model to model or with time though.

So, with my best quote, I created a word doc with my spec and price, this price was the best quote from above + a "convenience" small amount of money added, ie to cover the fact that we were not going to be travelling to collect the car. Handed that to my local dealer and shook hands within 15 minutes!

If like me, you were not intending to trade a car in, that makes it easier.

I was in BMW looking at a 1 series & their questions were "What other cars are you looking at & what do we have to do to get your order"? My reply was I am not buying today but I will be buying a car in the very near future & until I have had a look around I won't be placing an order with anyone. At that point a Polo wasn't on the radar but a Golf was.

I ended up doing mine on Personal Contract Hire, and a basic 3 door manual GTI was coming back at £193 per month on 3 year deal with £1158 (6x payments) deposit (10,000 miles per annum). A few options and paint put me just under £220 pcm, which is what I went for. I had some pretty good carwow offers, but nothing could bring me that near £200 a month, certainly not on 3 year deal. That price includes road fund for the full 3 year term too. I haven't leased a car before, but couldn't find any downside over a PCP, as I'll definitely not be wanting to keep it after the lease period - in my experience over the last 2 PCPs I've had there is little reality in the vague promise of trade-in equity when renewing a PCP.

I just missed out on a well cheap lease for a GTI

it was £127 a month inc. VAT on a 9 +23 deal plus a admin fee of about £250. That was a standard 3 door. I applied & missed out.

Not worth buying at them prices. Stock all gone but they will be getting some more in hopefully.

Silly money really for a GTI for such a low out lay. The 1.4tdi's were £40 a month more which would offset the fuel difference at 10k a year

All the quotes from carwow & broadspeed all seem to be based on a PCP deal which includes £1000 discount from what I can gather. Basically you save a grand but going the PCP route probably cost a grand anyway I suspect . I was looking to buy outright as I was looking to keep the car for at least 5 years but haven't seen any figures really to compare yet as I am very busy work wise.

Let me know how you get on with your car. Wouldn't mind having a look when you get it (I am about 15 miles away in Chellaston, Derby) I won't have or need one just yet until my daughter moves out.

You can pay off the PCP once you have car so still a route worth looking into.
