Thought I'd provide an update after 4 months of ownership.

Good things: it's a smart well screwed together little car. It goes like stink and handles pretty well. My dealership has been excellent when I needed to sort out some central locking problems. Now the car is properly run in it does feel looser and nicer to drive. I like the fact mine is a 5 door for practical reasons and the stop start is good too as I got used to this in my previous Fiesta 1 litre ecoboost.

Not so good. The condensation on start up was driving me mad. This evening I tried leaving the door open after I got in then started it up with the blowers on full to the windscreen then shut the door and well no steaming up of the windows. Either a fluke or I've hit on a solution! Also the handling is only slightly better than my previous Fiesta so goodness know how much better an ST is. I won't be on the phone to my Ford dealer a) because it would be financially silly and b) it would be the end of my marriage!

Overall the Polo gti is still a great hot hatch and I would recommend it to anyone.

So when I've gone on about the lovely exhaust pops and others don't hear them . It's because I have the DSG model and others commenting they can't hear anything have the manual??

Hi all,

Just collected my new GTI today. Can anyone shed some light on a few issues the dealer could not answer...
Does the car come as standard with the red light on door and sill strips?
How do you connect to mirror link and are there any cables or apps required?

Thanks in advance

What on earth are the dealers doing for their money if they don't know their products.

GTI sill strips... yes.
Red light in door...no.
Mirror link ....with your phone cable.

(Saw my first Golf R estate yesterday).

There is no part number as such. I've used both my standard HTC lead and a short Nokia one and both work fine

On the other hand the mirror link is not worth the time of day as if I had known it was that useless I wouldn't of spec'ed it

Just an idle video, I reckon when driving it hard it should make some noises.

I was having serious condensation issues when I first picked it up, now I'm getting none. Only thing I've changed it set the fan to windsreen/feet and I've also opened the 2 middle vents 3 notches on the dial.

I've only had mine for nearly 4 weeks now, and I'm still meh about changing from the ST. Hands down the Polo is slightly more luxurious, better built I'm not sure as the new Fiestas are really well put together regardless of what model you buy. Nothing comes close to the ST when it comes to B roads and although I haven't driven the Polo hard at all yet I don't feel it gives you the same confidence that the Ford does, your best bet would be using the extra torque to try catch the Fiesta on the straights.

It might not be financially silly to visit Ford, it all depends on what deals are on. I got my Fiesta on January 26th of last year and ordered the Polo on October 25th and I'm actually saving money.

One good use for it is using Maps through it as a replacement for the Sat Nav option.

Mine stops working as soon as I move off so not any use at all.

Still rubbish that I cannot change the unit the an MIB II unit and get Android Auto as that probably offers more functions than I have now

Ah right, I'm using CarPlay and it works fine. just not a great deal of apps compatible with it.

Well I planned to place an order on a Polo GTI today and have done just that!

The only problem now is the 5 month wait it's going to take :( .

See that people are discussing the app link thing, it was after I had pretty much done the deal I noticed that the app link was missing off my order. I questioned it and the saleswoman was puzzled why it wasn't on her print out. However I have spec'd Discovery Navigation and I swear not long ago I read you can't have both? Anyway a bloke who worked in there basically said the £100 app connect isn't worth it. So my car prob won't have it but who knows!

I only had to wait 8 weeks for mine so you might be lucky bakerboy :)
I was expecting 16-20 weeks.
