I can see a few VCDS mods I will make to my Polo GTi 6c.
However as my car is on PCH I will need to ensure it is in its original state before returning back to the manufacturer.
So does the VCDS software offer a simple back up i.e to create a copy of the original car configuration before I make changes and I can restore the settings at the end or do I need to manually reconfigure the car back to factory settings when it goes back?
I assume just simply pulling the battery out will make no difference as the changes are stored to some kind of flash rom?

It's just reset to factory settings with VCDS before you return the car. no problem.

Re: VCDS Backup & Restore
Actually I have a similar question. If the changes were wiped due to a service at VW does it allow you to restore a previous configuration or would you have to make each change by hand again?
I'm more thinking that some of the queries on here would be simpler if a standard template can be added to the config file to allow repeatable configuration amongst the same cars for users who want common mods like tear wipe and gauge sweep.

Obviously paying respect to the users having the same car with the same spec etc

What mods are you planning on doing? Turning on extra options shouldnt affect your warrenty as the dealer can turn them on if requested

Re: VCDS Backup & Restore
That's a fair point.
Still being fairly new to this but my plan is as follows:
- Needle (dial) sweep
- tear wipe
- anti hijack (central locking over 5mph)
- I want to tryout the XDS changes but this is where I think the dealer may not want to play ball and I've heard it's not good in ice and snow when done.
- Big speedo display (my previous car had HUD so this is the nearest I'll get to it)
- Automatic rain closing (I have specced the light sensor)
I don't think there's a lot else that can be done on a GTi is there?
