JackFM's Candy White 6R GTi

Post by jackfm »

Hi Everyone,

I'm here out of my comfort zone. I'm 26, have owned a car since I was 17 but have only owned 2. Both were clios:

1.2, first car, silly low

2.0 172 with ridiculously low miles and never let me down. This is a photo of it standard but it was low, spaced and I found some extremely rare Recaros for it. I loved it.

But the time came to go VAG. I was hooked after a trip to UD15 and have been saving since.

I'm used to being in a car I know everything about so I have a lot to learn. I nearly freaked when a light came up on the dash I didn't recognise... turns out it was the tyre pressure warning light on a car with 4 new tyres

So here it is, 2010 and Candy White. Winter pack with the bum warmers, comfort pack and a few other options.

I bought it in Edinburgh and live in London so immediately did 500 miles in it. The back of these cars get filthy!

I have to say I'm loving it. DSG is a mad thing that I need to master but so, so fun.

So big plans, mostly getting lots of factory options fitted; auto-lights, Xenons, Rear view camera, New headunit (RCD-510 or RNS-510. As yet undecided) and then when my Das Welt warranty runs out we'll start getting serious 8) I'd like to keep the wheels stock but get some stance through lows and spacers and chase some increased but not crazy power gains. Again not set in stone.

So help me out. What are the fun little mods, big mods, anything to look out for, advice :D

Welcome :)

How are you finding the car in comparison to your 172?

Keep an eye on the oil consumption - it can be very high with those engines..

Nice car and welcome on the forum. You only had to ring a few of your mates and you could have thrown the Renault in the dumpster right away

Thanks. Actually it has a lot of the "drama" that the 172 has when you put your foot down. I wasn't expecting that. Power wise it feels very similar, I think the Polo a bit quicker low down and a little less grunt up top. Good tip on the oil, I'll check that obsessively now :D

Haha, the 1.2 was a bit of a shed. I won't hear a bad word about 172s though - that is about as much fun as you can get for the money!

Welcome!
Big and good projects.

You know what I told you in my thread about automatic lights ... all right, however you have the chance to get many of your future projects with the following links. It is a chain of steps.
Preparatory steps (in your GTI):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2nv91 ... sp=sharing
Automatic lights:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2nv91 ... sp=sharing

Do not panic, I'll try to develop all this in a new topic.
Now there are new BCMs with some more features, but still a lot to discover on new BCM. (I have installed one)
