80w Halogen bulbs

Post by chrispy. »

Philips have got some 80w 5000k halogen H7's on sale..

Being 80w.. Is there a hazard of them burning the headlight?

Anything I should be cautious of anything?

True, however im after the bluey white light. Night breakers are rated at around 4000k.. Ive tried them before and they are too yellow for my liking.

Ive got a pair of 5000k Osrams at the moment but want them brighter.

Remember that colour temperature has nothing to do with the amount of light it outputs

The colder the light the darker it will look at night due to blue light not reflecting as well.

I'd stick with what you have as you won't gain anything apart from the possibility of breaking something in your car.

Also the ones you linked to are not 5000k by the looks of them.

But an 80w bulb will be brighter than a 55w bulb.. Surely.

Im asking if the 80w bulb will damage the headlight fixture.

I.e. Will the extra heat from the light bulb melt the inside of the headlight?

From the specs:
E Marked/Road Legal N
Other Details Off-Road Use Only! Not for use on public roads.

Yes 80W will generate much more heat than 55W. They also draw a lot more current, which the loom isn't designed for.

Ive had off road bulbs in for a long while. Haven't had a problem.

No where near as bright as them after market HID kits you can buy that all ricers or white van men buy :)

So is 55w the recommended maximum because of the restriction in the loom?

55W is the limit for many reasons. Heat, power consumption, rating of the wires, limits on light output
