Personal Registration

Post by Si_GTi »

Hi guys and gals,

I'd like your opinions on whether or not buying a private registration is worth it! Influenced by recent VW press cars I was looking at this:

Image

£244 on Newreg.co.uk, plus £80 for transfer fees, plus V.A.T. is something like £370 all in. Not bad when you consider it'll be on the car for at least 4 years.

Unfortunately I can't have 'S1MON', its a tad expensive  - ideally I wanted a 'cherished' plate, i.e. not a prefix plate, but again, I haven't got a spare few thousand quid lying about for '40VW', sadly!!

So: do I buy it or do I just spend the money on something sensible like getting my wheels refurbed, or going on holiday?

Cheers :D

contact the DVLA direct and they can do it for £250 inc all fees.

Private plates are definatly worth it - selling K4 RLM was the biggest mistake I ever made. :(

I bought one for the other half (R16 GSL) - about 2 years ago - new reg and others were offering it for 400 - 800 quid. went direct to DVLA and bought it for £250 all in......

Of course then I had to find her an R reg or newer car to put it on as it couldn't go on her E reg Polo Coupe S

So I bought the 1.4 CL (R reg Polo)

Now the plate is on that......

Incidently my other half's name is Lisa Riggs and with a bit of semi illegal spacing the plate is on the car as R16GS L

I'm not a great fan of personal plates but if you can get a good one you like and it means something to you I wouldn't hesitate to say go for it....

I have one on my newest 1994 Vauxhall Senator 3.0i CD 24V (A3 OCD) also slightly illegally spaced and it reads A 3.0 CD - sad I know but if you can't get "Personal" to you get "Personal" to the car...........

Just a standard plate. When you see how much I was offered for the plate you'll understand why I sold it!

BIG AAU....

I wonder if LTL (or LIL) 44U is available to go with that... :D
(I suppose L 1 LIL / LIL 1L... or Lil' 1L... are both already taken)

L 1 LVW would be great on a Lupo...

I've seen L1 UVW (LIU VW) for £500 from DVLA which I think would really look great on my car but then I'll be limited to buying VW's for the rest of my life (what's wrong with that I hear you all shout...just that I fancy an Audi as my next car!)

If it was something more personal, as in L1 UCY (LIU CY) then I'd probably pounce on it but I cannot find it...then again it would probably go for quite a bit as it could also be seen as LUCY...
