One fog light always on??

Post by georgebentham »

Hi all,

I've noticed this morning that the passenger side foglight is on all the time when the lights are on? (It's a new GTI)

Is there a reason for this or do I have a wiring issue?

The car is only 3 months old I'm gonna go into VW for someones head if there is wiring issues already!

Thanks in advance :D :D

Are you sure it's not the cornering fog?

This confused me at first too. I'd like to switch the whole cornering fog facility off. But there doesn't seem to be a menu entry for it.

Is that something a dealer could do?

I've found the cornering light facility to be really useful, not only to light my way but also to warn pedestrians just before I mow them down.I can't imagine why you'd want to disable it but we are all different and that's what makes life interesting isn't it.

I'm with Richmondo on this one... I LOOOOOVE the feature. Makes visibility around corners at slow speed perfect. :)

You can turn it off in the Car Setup... I think it resets each time though.

When is this supposed to be on then? because I was just sat on my driveway the other day and it was on then.
Is there a sensor on a certain amount of steering lock that turns them on?
People at work keep telling me I have a light out when I'm pulling into the car park

It should only come on at low speeds when turning, I have a feeling that maybe both come on briefly when reversing - that is based on what I've noticed with daughter's late 2009 Ibiza and what I've read.

If you are turning into spaces and "keep" some steering "on" they might be staying on after you have stopped, I've only ever noticed them coming on when cornering at low speed with wife's Polo.

If you have a problem, I'd afraid that it will probably not be a wiring problem but some control problem - that is if it is not just doing what we are describing.

Edit:- BTW if not said already, only one side will normally come on while driving slowly, and probably when in reverse.

And when you use the indicator, turn signal if you come from the wrong side of the pond.

Maybe it's the new function of static cornering lights when reversing, this function is activated by default in the new VW models. (if possible)

I have activated on my 6R and I think it is very useful for maneuvering in tight spaces with poor illumination, to avoid scratches with the columns, walls, etc ... in front corners of the car.

People always used to tell me on the way into and out of work my fog lights were on. It's because I was turning or reversing. It's a pretty cool function and something I wish my new car had.
