Possible gearbox noise

Post by s-gx »

Hi guys jumped in the car this morning driving to work and I noticed a noise coming off car when I came off the accelerator ( not a banging, knocking or clunking noise kind of like a humming/groaning type noise) seems to just be when I'm in 2nd gear and slowing down. It could possibly be there when up in 5th but so far 2nd and 1st is only time I've heard it.

Any ideas?
I'm thinking gearbox oil may need topped up? The clutch does shudder when taking off every time and quite high so I know will need changed asap.

You should certainly top up / change the gearbox oil if you think it is low, regardless.

Is the noise road speed related or engine speed related ?

Is it still there if you knock the car out of gear and coast ?

Had a look at the oil level was absolutely fine and checked all wheel bearings.

After driving it last night for a wee bit it seems to be the noise comes almost as soon as take foot off accelerator in any gear. Car also sounds a lot louder when going round right hand bend/corner, this why checked wheel bearings but all fine.

Doesn't appear to be a noise when I coast only in gear and come off accelerator.

I would check the left hand driveshaft / cv joints
