About the windshield wipers.

Post by haflidij »

I wanted to ask you all in here about the wipers. If you look in the photo i attached with this post you can see in the circle i drew that if you pull the wiper arm all the way up it scratches the paint in the bonnet.
Is this normal ?. I bought the car used over a year ago and i just noticed this today. Its very strange that you cant take the wiper arm all the way up , i have to hold it half way up to take dirt and snow from the windshield.

Not sure how it's done, but you need to put the car into service mode... I think.

Hmm.. what do you mean by service mode ?. The arm works perfectly just that if i lift it manually up then it scratches the bonnet at the edge of it.

As deanjohnl has said, to lift the wipers off the windscreen, you need to put them in the service position.

Turn the ignition key to the position where the warning lights in the instrument cluster are illuminated but do not start the engine. Then turn the ignition key back to the 'off' position but do not remove the key.

Push the wiper stalk down to the single 'flick" wipe position. The wipers will sweep up to the vertical position and stay there. You can then lift them safely off the windscreen to clear snow and ice, and clean the screen and the wiper arms will not make contact with the edge of the bonnet / hood.

To put the wipers back into the normal 'park' position- horizontally at the vase of the windscreen, turn the ignition key again to the position where the warning lights in the instrument cluster are illuminated, but do not start the engine. Push the wiper stalk down, and the wipers will sweep back down to the bottom of the screen.

Oh i understand now. But wow thats annoyingly much of work just to clear the windshield without having to deal with that :p
