Hi all, first post, want to take the front subframe off to sort rust issues and a bit of welding, does the engine sit on the subframe? Just figuring what's got to come off, I'm an engineer so not frightened, just need a heads up
Cheers Dan

The gearbox bolts into the subframe, as does the lower engine mount i believe
Youll ideally want to put the engine on a support bar
Have you got a haynes manual? The process to remove the subframe is well detailed in there.

Thanks for the reply, yes forgot I've got a Haynes manual, doesn't cover the Gti though but guess same as other engines

For the most part it's exactly the same for parts like that

The gearbox / engine assembly is held in place by simple engine mounts. The left hand one is easily visible, the right hand one onto the gearbox is assembled under the battery, with a rear mount on the gearbox underneath. A single bolt from the rear mount is the only connection to the subframe.
