Newbie couple of issues

Post by kewe »

Hi Folks,

Newbie to this forum as just picked up a nice wee 1.0 6n2 Polo as a 2nd car runabout.
Couple of issues I have discovered so far with the car.

Firstly, no rear wiper blade is fitted. Got one from ECP but it looks like its for a hooked wiper arm.
Mines doesn't have that hook, just a round pin at the end of the arm. Guy at ECP reckons I'm missing a bit on the wiper arm?
However I have seen some wiper arms like this where the wiper seems to clip on to it?

Secondly, and a bit more concerning, is the speedo not working. When i first got it it bounced around, I then played with the wires
connecting to what I believe is the speed sensor (rear left top of gear box - connector/sensor?) and now it's just stopped altogether.
Fuel gauge seems to fluctuate a bit as well, not sure if it's related. Rev counter works fine.

Code reader picks up fault code P0501 Speed sensor fault. I would like to get that connector off if it is the right one just to see if it needs cleaned up.
Not sure how to get it off though as I've tried giving it a pull but it wont budge?

Cheers

Ed

Welcome

Can you post a pic of the wiper arm?

Could be a bad earth from the clocks - check your earthing points. Are the wires on the gearbox damaged? Thats where the speedsensor is

To remove the connector you need to press on the tab at the back and wiggle/pull gently.

Got the sensor off now and it looks like it only has 2 pins. The 3rd pin has broken off!
That could be my problem :(

Pop a pic up of the sensor

As for the rear wiper, that's a later 9n3 arm so you can use an 'aero' blade

You'll want a 2007 Passat estate rear wiper blade and you'll need to push the bracket down the blade so it's in the right position

Or alternatively For a straight fit, get a first generation scirocco rear wiper blade. Only difference is it's a bit shorter

Correct - it should definitely have three pins. Just checked my workshop manual
