Canbus system

Post by Asamoli »

Hi just wondering if anyone knows about the canbus system on a 6r TSI. It tells me when my bulbs have gone on my rear lights with a warning light on the dash but it doesn't seem to be working on the front lights for some reason, when my dipped headlights/ DRL bulbs have gone it has not told me there is a fault. Is this normal or is there a fault in the system?

Thanks in advance

It should inform you about an error in the dipped beam, unless you disabled the warning. This requires VCDS or VCP

If dipped headlights are not controlled by the BCM it is impossible for you to be warned on dash via warning light. This happens if your 6R does not come from factory with xenon or it not is a bluemotion model.

If your 6R has halogen headlamps and it not is a bluemotion model the dipped headlight goes through relay J331 and not by BCM. Similar thing can happen with the DRLs.

I have a 1.2 TSI so is it normal to have no warning lights for blown bulbs? And is there any way I can fix it so it will tell me when one blows?

The engine is not determinative, the important thing is the factory wiring configuration in your 6R, which depends on the equipment chosen at the time of purchase.

If you did not choose Bixenon headlights or a Bluemotion model when you bought the 6R you do not have the proper BCM.

It's possible to get this in your 6R? Yes, but it is an important modification. It requires modifying the original wiring configuration (it's no easy) and a new BCM.
To do this modification is better to have other motivations e.g. install bixenon headlights.

I have an SEL so is that the wrong BCM? And where is the BCM and what one would I need to make it work? Thinking about upgrading to xenon's in the future as well as headlight washers in the bumper.

Do you have VCDS? (diagnostic tool)
You can start reading and watching all the links on this topic for your future intentions.

I want recall that: There are many sites that sell similar wirings ... I will sell them again within one or two months... now it's imposible for me (it's a question of my time available)
