Manual to Auto...engine change

Post by Tomley »

Hi,

I'm fitting a 16V 1.4 into my 8V, mines currently an Auto....and because I'm lazy, I want to keep it auto :)

tHow hard is it to replace the fly wheel of the 16V with my torque convertor?

I wanna try and do it all in a day, so can't just remove stuff to find out before hand. I know how easy it is to remove a fly wheel, just never replace one with a torque convertor.

Cheers

Should be a straight swap

Engines are the same. It's just the gearbox you'll need to transfer and any ancillary bits the manual doesn't have

Thats what I was hoping.

Found a BBZ locally, out of a Seat. From what I can see, they are the 100bhp engine?

BBZ is a more modern engine. You'll want a Axx block really as the Bxx use different electronics

Newbie here requesting help please.

I am in a similar situation where the BKY engine in my mother's 55 plate 1.4 auto needs to be replaced (high oil pressure in engine block and insufficient in head - breather, sump and oil pump have been replaced and have not fixed this - suspect manufacturer defect).

I have found a good BKY replacement but it is in a manual Ibiza. I do not want to take the plunge and buy this engine to discover the torque converter will not pair up. I have also heard stories about the six bolt holes being in different locations on some engines too...........perhaps someone can confirm this and let me know if these engines are the same to reassure me about buying the replacement engine?

Many thanks in advance!

Just in case someone else is in a similar situation to me - If you have a BKY engine in an automatic you HAVE TO replace the engine with one from another automatic. The manual BKY engine I bought was identical to the auto engine except for the gearbox housing bolt holes which share no similarity and are in completely different places.

I have now managed to find an engine from an auto......hopefully it is ok and we can have the car running again soon!
