I have just picked up my Polo GTI 6R from an independant garage and when I test drove it Saturday (short test drive as I didnt really have the time to test drive it between jobs) I cant say I noticed it, but now, the car always has the bonnet in white on the display, unless I press the OK/RESET on the bottom of the stalk on the right hand side, and then it lets me view the MPG etc. Is this normal, or is this a sensor issue?
I have lifted the bonnet numerous times and it's definitely closing etc.
The car was fully serviced including all filters, oil, brake pads, new tyres etc and MOT between my test drive and when I collected it
Thank you
Just got my car and it thinks the bonnet is open

And a microswitch at the end of that cable! Check your wipers work okay, I seem to remember that the front wipers do not work when the bonnet is not closed properly.

Re: Just got my car and it thinks the bonnet is open
Thank you for all of your replies
I have today, discovered that it is a fault. I have taken a look at the mechanism and it seems there's lots of grit stuff in there. The garage thinks it might be from where it was pressure washed, although there are other bits of corrosion for example on the battery jump point as you look in to the engine bay on the right. So I think at some point, someone has let loose with a pressure washer in the bay.
I put some high end lubricant on the catch mechanism (quite a lot) and just driving along the fault kept coming and going, rather than staying on permanently. So we have some sort of progress ...
For now, I have unplugged the sensor and I now I don't get any errors - I've informed the garage and said that I shall bring it back at my earliest convenience

Ah well some new bits needed then, I can't remember if the micro switch is part of the bonnet lock assembly or not.
One other thing, what is the version of engine in that - is it CAVE ?

I shall check when I get home
The car is late 2012 with 80k on the engine and it runs beautifully so I assume the engine issues have been solved

Ah, good, so you did know about issues with the early engines, as you say, hopefully your one will not be a CAVE one.

Oh yes, I'm very much aware of the Potential issues this engine has
I've just checked my service book and it appears it has the CABE engine, or at least, it came with the CAVE engine. Next step is to check the actual engine stamp to confirm its not been changed
