Scanned car and found this fault logged!

Post by RUM4MO »

Okay, so I've updated my Carista to V3 and so thought that I'd scan my wife's Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL! Carista found a fault logged in the A/C section - "Fault codes: 590081 ABS Inlet Valve - Left Front (N101) " - not good and did not sound too convincing!

So, grabbed VCDS and let it have a look, this time it found a fault, same fault but with a more plausible fault label, ie "590081 - Control Circuit for A/C Compressor B10A9 11 [008] - Short to Ground Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear" .

So there is a fault being stored, looking on the interweb does bring up a few instances of this exact fault - but no replies confirming what the issue was, car is still in warranty and due a service, so I would like to have an idea if possible what normally causes this - is this yet another issue with Sandon compressors?

Sounds like a PCB issue on the AC compressor. Electrical vs mechanical thats for sure

I would raise that with the dealer asap.

Looks similar to the EVAP issue where the PCB in the unit just fails and shorts to ground

Service due in 17 days so yes, a timely discovery, I'll add that to the annoying noises the EVAP pipework makes, which very few people have commented on in this forum!

On your phone etc, open up the Carista app, in the list of options, you will see the first one is "Restore purchases" - use that to get the latest version in.

This latest version only went live this week and it is "Version 3.0" I only accidentally bumped into this info (about the release of a newer version), and finding out how to get it was also just by chance, not really a very handy way of doing things?

Well car has been handed into Western VW Fort Kinnaird Edinburgh, I ran VCDS on car last night and that previously stored logged fault has gone, and I did not clear stored faults! So does anyone know is newer VAG cars clear logged fault codes if they are "low level" and that fault has not occurred again over the past xx days? VCDS and Carista both found the stored fault code, but on VCDS there was a bit of script which said that this fault was no longer present after testing - or something close to that.

Anyway, heads up, and a public airing of a customer's impressions of a first visit with a car for its first service on Western Volkswagen Fort Kinnaird Edinburgh:- car booked in about 3 weeks ago with a complete choice of when I wanted the work done, I came up with 09:00 08/08/16 and added in a couple of issues that I wanted them to look in to (peeping noises and badly manufactured and/or fitted fuel tank wiring) - got there at 08:25, place has been reinvented so no dedicated service reception area, a matronly "lady" manning a central pod area who did not seem to want to have to say anything, eventually got collared by a young guy who directed me to one of 3 empty tables, and then had some difficulty finding my appointment details, but got them in the end, so car will be ready at 17:00 - I answered, no, I booked it in to an empty day, I want it done sooner and not have some late comers getting my slot, so 15:00 was agreed on. Before leaving I reminded him about the couple of issues I wanted looking at at the same time, he can't see any mention of that, though there is some other paperwork clipped to what he is looking at, so who knows! It is official, I am the first person complaining about the "Peeeeeeping" from the EVAP pipe, "how do you spell that emap?" no EVAP, he has never ever heard anything like this before. So it sounds like I have been speaking to a monkey and not the organ grinder, no surprise there. What really annoyed me was the new layout, probably it was put in place round about the time that car was handed over in August last year - huge wall full of graphics almost stating their mission statement - in my words" - "easy peasy to get your car serviced when you want", "we send out courtesy coaches or loan cars it is so convenient for you" - that was only 2 out of the four, but enough for now! Just like Audi, all show and it looks like no go, what a load of loosers.

I hope that I can update this later with a better feeling of what has happened as the day pans out.

Well nothing like wandering back into your dealer to make them get going, I went back to the dealer a bit early to find out what was happening wrt ordering new pipe etc. The meeter/greeter, a younger one this time, intercepted me as I walked to the service adviser's area and asked why I was in etc, "just have a coffee(no) or tea(no) or a cold drink(no) and sit over there and I'll get back to you" - no chance, she had not passed her "one man and his dog training" so I headed for the MOT viewing window and could see wife's Polo still up on the ramp, then shuffled across to the service area to hear things from the horse's mouth. Now I've got a different service advisor that seems to talk sense and no funny stories. They were just about to phone and confirm if I wanted to leave the car until they had a new EVAP pipe in or what. So progress has been made - strange thing is, I have not heard this peeeeeeping noise on the way home!

More news on this "compressor control" fault that was logged, it seems that Skoda at least have recognised that this fault can get logged for no good reason and so a new version of Auto HVAC software has been released and should be getting flashed to cars that report this fault.

Now, am I being cynical, or how many visits to VW do you think it will take for VW to dig deep and find that Polo 6R 6C is also affected?

Be aware, no fault indicator lights will be getting switched on, if you do not look for logged faults, the only indication that you will get is sporadic "not working" of the AC chiller.

Skoda call the change, a software update to version 202.

You have been advised!
