Rear drum adjustment

Post by piglet14 »

Never seen one of these, it's got a spring loaded taper.
I'm used to star wheels.
Whats the drill here?

Self adjusting shoes on these

What are you wanting to adjust? Sometimes the piston seizes so they dont adjust properly

Thanks Alex
Had the shoes off, pistons moving freely, copper greased moving parts.
Shoes & drums look fairly recent anyway.
With a star/ratchet wheel adjuster I would set the shoes so the drum would only just go on then fiddle the starwheel through a bolt hole until the shoes were lightly rubbing.
Is this the same or do you just pump the handbrake to work the taper down?

Think I've sussed it, stick a spike through a bolt hole and into the spring hole at the bottom of the taper, then lever the taper down a couple of notches at a time.
I'll have a proper go tomorrow after we have had a good bleeding session, followed by a bleeding good session!

QUOTE:– Firmly depress brake pedal once, this adjusts the rear brakes.
All pigs refuelled & lined up ready for take off.

Maybe the taper spring go soft with age but that is not happening, I suspect this was causing the excessive pedal travel as when I removed the assemblies both tapers were at the top.
Not hard to do a manual edjust.

Thanks Alex.
