Servicing question

I bought a 12 month old BlueGT last week as an approved VW (dasweltauto) which came with the next 2 services free.
The dealer said he'd get the car serviced before i picked it up and it was only a few days after collecting it i found they hadn't stamped the service book. I emailed the dealer who said to sent the book to him and he'll get it stamped (car has done 10k).
I got an email back today saying the car is on a longlife plan (i told him i only do 5k a year so wanted it on a yearly service schedule) and it hadn't been serviced as it doesn't need doing until 20k - that means the car will be 3 years old when the 1st service is due

Now that doesn't seem correct and as i haven't got the service book back yet i can't check - should it have the 1st service at 20k OR 12 months whichever comes first or do i leave it until 20k (3 years when warranty will almost be up and 1st mot due) ?
I expected at least an oil + filter change at 12 months

The car can be set up however you wish by default it will be on variable

Your car should be due a service at 2years/18k which ever happens first which your plan you will cover at this point of you want to switch you may have to pay for the annual services from this point but it's up to you if you feel more comfortable with annual services

a oil change every year is no bad thing despite claims it's pointless for modern cars

Golden or black would be for the oil colour.

Right, my wife has an August 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS and it came set on 9400miles/12months service intervals. I has just been done today as it looked like the service counter had not been reset at PDI so had been running from car build date!

Variable servicing, in my experience, the warning would come at around 18months if the mileage is very low.

The programmed service figures for variable servicing should not be as long as 3 years.

As said, check what/where the car thinks it is wrt its next service by looking under servicing in the MMI thingie - check up on your owners handbook for how to find that .

When i looked at the cars display it showed service due in 320 days (approx) or 9400 miles - it just seems a long time to wait for its 1st service as this is when the break in occurs so there will probably be slight deposits in the oil from bedding in?

It doesn't really matter anymore with advancements in oil the bedding in process isnt so much of a issue don't get me wrong your engine will still loosen up over the years cruel as it sounds


Check your oil I'd imagine it will be cleaner then you think 2 year service intervals are normal practice these days as much as I dislike them

Thanks for the info - just peed off the dealer said he'd service it before i picked it up and he didn't, this was part of the sale so he should have done it even if it didn't need doing

I was worried about voiding the warranty if it wasn't serviced on time, i suppose if it needs to go in for any work they'll look at the display and see i haven't missed a service as it's not showing as overdue

Do you know if rattles are covered under warranty or are they covered up until the car is 12 months old like most other manufacturers?

It's a bit annoying lack of knowledge maybe oversight you have the balance of the manufacturers warranty anyway it's not void as your service isn't due yet

I'm not sure about rattles the service department would be best to ask the das auto scheme warranty may be of Benefit if it was only covered for 12 months on the original warranty

VW cover most things in the additional 2 years ontop of the original 1 year warranty. I had my tiguan in for some rattles without question as it approached the end of the warranty period

I think, generally speaking, if a VAG car is sold as "approved etc", it will have had an oil and filter change before sale, regardless if it was due or not. The figures you have posted from your car's service indicator suggest to me that that car has just been serviced, and if the oil is golden, as suggested earlier, then you can be sure that it has been done.

I think that your dealer is being an idiot for not making sure that the service page has not been stamped as he could have saved you all this worry.

This is where VCDS can come into its own as you can look up the actual servicing details, like "days since service" and "miles since service", I think, as well as checking the set "servicing option" - ie variable or fixed.

Editted + Edit:- my Audi dealer just pees me off as my car, on variable servicing, was serviced at its correct time in a February, then got a standard pre-sale oil and filter change in June, so that confuses things and leaves me a bit of a problem, there are specific tasks that are detailed as needing doing at 2 years, 3 year 4 years etc, but they are all related to if the car has completed very high mileages, my car at 5 years old has only done 21.5K miles, so I stick with dealer (major)service every 2 years (car set on variable servicing) and I do oil and filter using VAG parts at the inbetween years, but Audi keep stating car is due service at around January/February as that was its initial selling time.
