Planning to order new Polo R-Line

Post by Scarum »

Hello. My first post here!

Hopefully I can make some new friends here and contribute a little when I gain some knowledge. For now I wanted to gather a little advice and points of view.

As the title of the thread says I'm in line to order a new Polo. I'm looking at configuring a 1.2 TSI engine in the R-Line trim.

As a music lover I wanted to ask how the USB socket works with the radio unit. Would I simply plug in a formatted USB stick with mp3 files? Can I connect my Samsung Galaxy S3 directly and play music from that?

The extras I'm considering include the convenience pack (electronic folding mirrors before parking in the garage is a god-send) and auto-climate air-con (I've experienced VW auto climatic before... I don't like the cold blast of air-con all the time... I know I can turn it down!).

I have been considering the sat-nav system but have read that car manufacturers aren't well clued up on how to develop their interfaces and overall use. As such this could be an extra I wouldn't get much joy from. Are my fears dumbfounded by your experiences?

Any other extras you think I should consider?

Hello and welcome!

I'm surprised that VW are still listing the 1.2TSI engine option in Polo, the reason that I say that is because when we ordered a new Polo SEL 5 door for my wife back in April 10th 2015, we were told that we might have to accept a 1.0TSI as the order book would be closing on all 1.2TSI later that month - and still they are offering the 1.2TSI, sounds like there is a supply problem with the 1.0TSI engine or VAG has made a bit change to its plans to drop the 1.2TSI on the grounds of emissions and manufacturing costs.

Options, well the combine comfort pack that included the mirrors was not available at time of order, but we did select rainsensing/auto dipping mirror, winter pack, auto air con and a couple of other things. Left out the SatNav as we tend to use that car locally, have two other cars and have a portable SatNav that has life time updates, if we are going further afield - trouble with fitted SatNav can be options and cost of updating maps etc, but I'm sure that they are okay to use and always there if you find you suddenly need them, trouble is, they are designed down to a cost, the aftermarket ones come in many guises big money + big features or small money and small features, so you dip in where you feel you want to be moneywise and featurewise.

One annoying think with new Polo, unless they have sorted this out now, the sunglasses holder is in the glovebox - what use is that when you need them in a hurry, so I've just fitted one from the Polo/Golf to replace a grabhandle. Also, auto lock/unlock might not be standard yet, so would need coding in to that car.

Who are you buying your car off ? Carwow.com comes up with some pretty good prices but can they be achieved. We have just got a 1.0tsi R Line , pick it up tomorrow. Can highly recommend VW Fakenham , which is not far from you , part of the Vindis Group. We travelled 70 miles to get there as our local VW Ipswich and BSE cannot be bothered to ring back or even compete with other East Anglian Dealers, quite diasppointed in them really.
As to options we have managed to get an ex demo rather than buying new. So can't really help , will there be other options we can add later ? Not now but pissibly later , Sat Nav is not the usual VW one i think they are offering a Kenwood. I fitted one myself to the last Golf i had , fitted by me cost £440 , VW wanted over £1000.
