To Old To Drive A Polo (Gti) ?
Yes I know its a stupid statement, but as a late 40 something (supposed grown up) am I to old to be thinking about buying a Polo Gti. Is a Polo not just for the young new to driving before progressing to the larger Golf for example?
I wouldn't want a Mini but I do see the older generation driving those, so surely me driving a Polo isn't so wrong!

Of course not! I'm quite a lot older than you and still manage to have loads of fun. I came from a Merc Coupe, which was steady, boring and sensible - the GTi is a breath of fresh air.

Re: To Old To Drive A Polo (Gti) ?
I got my Polo GTI in March and I'm mid-50 something, so I wouldn't consider late 40 something as too old to get a Polo GTI and getting one wouldn't be wrong!
I previously had a Golf (mk6 GTD) but wasn't doing the mileage to warrant having a diesel, nor did I need a Golf-sized car, so decided to downsize and get something that would be fun to drive and reasonably fast. I don't regret getting my GTI and I'm really enjoying it.
If you want one, go for it!

My 86 year old friend drives a Cayman S having recently sold his Lotus Evora.

Regardless of age you will enjoy driving the Polo. It's such a small, well built and sophisticated little car you will have nothing but enjoyment when driving it.
I have literally pushed mine to it's limits... it's currently running around 260bhp/285lbft, done 2 track days and 4 drag strip days with over 250+ launches (DSG too) and has never skipped a beat.
The cars now on 26.5k after 9 months and still as reliable as new.
My advice... don't hesitate just go out and buy one![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

No, never too old. I am in the process of buying a Polo GTI because the Scirocco is getting too low for the wife to gracefully disembark. We are both well past retirement age so go get one!!

Mid-50's and don't really care what anyone else thinks - the car is what I want and so I've got it (well the wife has - I rarely get close to it...)joe6 wrote:No, never too old. It's a fun little car which will do day to day stuff without murmur but still knows how to play when you need it to - and it is about the perfect size for our crowded cities

I am well past retirement and love my Polo GTi. It can be exciting but it can also be quiet and sedate. The power is always there to have fun and also to get you out of trouble when necessary. You will love it!
Ps. And it will stop you from growing old![Smile :-)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Any one past 55 (my age) is too old for GTI, so I got 1.0 liter 110ps wonder instead, or was it the price??? Hmmm, can't remember, must be my good but very short memory...

A major consideration must be how small a folding Zimmer frame can be, solve that problem and you will have the ideal retirement vehicle.
GTi is after all an anagram for git so it has to be okay for old gits like me to drive one.
