wall of sound mk4

Post by pazz »

has anyone ever walled a mk4?

i need any tips on this!
the box will be 16cf3 with 4 15"ers. the port tuned to 65hz -h 23.5" w 23.5 d 4.3" and placed behind the drivers seat.
bracing is a must, to try and stop any panel flexing. would 18mm mdf be thick enough?
i'll have to raise the suspension, as at the moment the front is around 2" from the tarmac!

spl is everything.

personally I think tuning of 65hz would sound absolute pants, and IMO pointless.

I would suggest tuning around 45hz, would sound much better but still score high on the mics.

What equipment you thinking of using? dont forget at least a few extra batteries. I would use at least inch thick MDF, double faced on the front.

get yourself over to www.talkaudio.co.uk for info on walling, quite a few guys over there have done it. One in particular that does sound amazing, and insanely loud, a guy called Am Singh and his Blade Ice corsa.

go to www.bladeice.com and click on the demo car link, got loads of pics on how he built it.

Hope that helps.

yeah, i would agree 45hz would sound very gutsy but the port lenth will be too long and it would have to be 'L' shaped. not the best for air movment and max spl.
i can tune down to 52hz, with a straight port.

trial and error me thinks.

do you know if it is possible to have interchangeable ports for day to day then another for spl.

are you sponsored? might be worth trying to get someone to chose your car as a demo one - if the mods are good enough, then you might be able to do it....

very good point!
everyone keeps saying that my car should be in a mag. but i always wimp out. all i have done is my own work as well. i have never been able to grasp the fact that people throw thousands of £s at a car and get someone else to do all the work and then say-
" look at what i have done to my car, it was really hard work! "
