New Polo Driver

Post by teg »

Hi,

After my 2004 Audi A3 had a major oil leak last year I have switched to a black 2012 1.2 TDI Polo Match. Any advice for a new owner? Hints and tips?

One annoying thing I have noticed is that in my A3 I had a clip on the end of the fuel flap, which allowed me to hang my fuel cap on. Cannot see this option on the Polo.

Overall happy with my purchase and not had any problems so far.

Thanks,
skymera

Not even one on my 2016 R-Line, it's so frustrating!

That's how I support my filler cap when refuelling. Just need to be careful slotting the filler cap onto the flap so you don't scratch or damage the paintwork on the flap.

I agree, only thing is, well at least on my wife's August 2015 Polo, the lanyard thing is now made out of very hard plastic stuff rather than the original more rubbery stuff from older VAG cars - not progress and can lead to the cap wanting to escape and scratch paintwork, not impressed!

I'd be surprised if any other ones will fit - just the way it is!

Though, no harm in trying, maybe go for a Skoda one as it will have a slot in it for an ice scrapper, so I've been told!! (all Skodas seem to have a parking ticket clip on the windscreen and an umbrella either in the door of under the seat??) If some/all these things are considered handy, why can't VW and Audi fit them as standard on top of all the better than Skoda bits they do fit?

ive only found out about the cap holder because of this thread and my car has the same problem the lanyard bit is to rigid and makes the cap fly staight off the flap rendering it completely useless :(

This used to drive me mad when the cap jumped of the flap, try rotating lanyard so it doesn't pull on the cap....always works for me now although I agree you shouldn't have to put so much effort in !

This could be down to these lanyards and maybe caps being made in different countries - so original spec of material lost in translation?

My wife's car is a 5 door SEL which means made in South Africa - might be worth raiding a scrappy's for an older cap with lanyard assembly, if only to harvest the lanyard and swop to get rid of this stupid annoyance, I must look at what is fitted to my 2011 Audi S4, though maybe its fuel cap is a bit different, certainly its lanyard is flexible as is the one on my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza - again probably down to these shared parts being manufactured in many different countries.
