on the polo 6n2 when u open the drivers door a whining sound comes from the rear of the car. does ne1 know wot the hell this noise is cos i wanna know!

yup fuel pump priming, mk3's do it when the ignition is initialy turned!

Ignition turned on mk4's - I believe - makes a whirring noise for about 3 secs.

I knew it was the fuel pump but never quite knew why or when, it doesn't happen every time, only the first time after you've unlocked it?

Its a bit freaky. There must be a reason why it runs then and not on the 1st turn of the ignition.
