1.4 16V Cambelt

Post by andy198712 »

Hi,

Brought a cheap 1.4 as a first car for my son, needs some work, i've got no service history with it, had a look at the cam belt today and looks a bit old, not cracked ect but not the newest. wouldn't harm to change it.

do they have two belts? I've only done PD TDI belts which is one belt, where as this had one from the crank to cam, then another joining the two cams it seemed?

are these done using the same tool kit as the PD TDI, the moulded tool for the bottom and pins for the top? (although needing two pins)

Cheers

I'd doubt if it is the same locking kit, yes there are two belts both need replaced along with the tensioner and small idler pulley. I've never changed them myself, always got a localish VAG indie to do that job. Most people would change the water pump at the same time along with the coolant.
