VW Polo Poor lighting

Post by Davemac82 »

Hi Guys,

Looking for some help here. I have a POLO 1.2 TDI Bluemotion 6R 62 Plate - I have just bought the car and really like it. The only 'issue I have is that i feel the headlamps and DRL's are really poor and a bit of an issue when driving at night, Im looking to replace these with better quality lighting but unsure as to what type of bulbs for each light and also what options ive got. Ive had a look online at headlamps but conflicting info as to H4's or H7's... Any help would be appreciated.

The dipped beam can be turned off from drl by insulating or removing a pin from the light switch

Think about swap your headlights to H7 or something better (eg. Bi-Xenon) ;)

If you are thinking about changing to H7, here's some useful information (use Google Translate :P)

we're dealing here with the electrically superb Polo Bluemotion 7L6 with headlights controlled by bcm :-)

H4 -> H7 is more or less plug and play
adapt byte 18 from HEX 61 to 65 if necessary
adapt byte 22 from HEX 04 to 00 if necessary

;)

I wish I knew what that meant - I am quite technically minded just never attempted anything like this with a car [emoji851]

Any suggestions on kits to upgrade? I've seen a few on eBay but not sure on quality & compatibility.

Would be easier and cheaper to ust change the bulbs to philips x-treme vision or osram nightbreakers, first thing I do to a new car you easily gain 20-30 metres of vision.

My Fabia has similar lights, I upgraded the bulbs to Philips Xtreme 130s (IIRC) which were on offer on Amazon. Big improvement.
