erWin?

Post by wolfie »

Has anyone used Erwin at all to source information?

I've been looking for a decent workshop manual for the Polo but there doesn't seem to be anything out there at the moment. I just wondered if anyone has used erWin, and what sort of information is available? I know the obvious answer is register and have a look, But I just wondered if anyone has already used it at all?

Yeah I used erwin years ago for some jobs I had to do on my Skoda. I paid for a few hours access I think and just downloaded as much as I could.

Did the job for me at the time and one of the most useful documents turned out to be an official vehicle jacking procedure, showing exactly where to jack the car which was always debated on the Briskoda forum until that point.

I think I used it to get a load of wiring diagrams to help diagnose a knock sensor fault I had on the 1.8 20vT.

Bought a copy from ebay a while ago for a Golf and that was useful for a while.

I have used it many times. It has all the information you need.
Unregistered you can see all the documents that are available for download. Once registered you can download them (first you have to pay ...)

In German and English there is more information (logically). You need to learn how it works so you can download all the documents you need in the set time.

7€ + tax, half hour of use. Perfect (at least for me). erWin has the latest information, as long as it is available. (even old information is updated)

Thanks for the replies.

I'll give it a go over the next couple of days. I only really want some basic stuff, part numbers, servicing regimes, TPI bulletins if it has them, plus any info re-cam chain recommendations/work. At that money it's not too bad.

I seem to remember having some difficulty in buying time initially as the format for giving them your postal address (for using your credit card) only works if you use the German way of entering your address, I've forgotten the exact detail of that, but it did annoy/frustrate me for a minute or two!

So far I've only used the SEAT site, it seems like, or did at that time, that some if not all these Erwin sites are crated individually so if you become competent in using VW starting to use SEAT is a whole new ball game - stupid stupid! At the time I used it, the SEAT site had no visible option to download documents, which was very annoying - then my printer ran out ink and then time, a very bad first experience which I'm sure does not happen with VW or Skoda, or hopefully Audi, but I've still to find that out.

Incidentally, the urgent need I had to use Erwin was to chase down an Ibiza battery draining issue which my first SEAT main dealer refused to accept might be down to the BCM software needing updated/corrected. In the end I exhausted all options of individual circuits causing this and came to the conclusion that I was correct in that it was a BCM software issue, my SEAT dealership closed so I went to another one and they agreed with what I was saying as they had had a similarly aged Polo in with that same problem, so they took the fight to SEAT and within 3 days got an answer and a patch reference, problem solve and it only took about 12 months and lots of hours of my time removing fuses and recording battery drain etc etc!!
