VAG Diagnostics...

Post by kapur »

Has anyone heard of these?

It's something you plug into your car so you can check all the data on your laptop.

I was just wondering, what enhancements can be made with this equipment?

I read something about some central locking locking itself... anti-hijack mode or something?

lolz!

I'm not sure!

if someone could briefly let me know what can be done.

I'm running a 1.4S Auto if it's any important?

Thnx in advance!

Its not that exiting. You can read engine fault logs. Mine had

3 Fault/s detected

1) misfire detected
2) bank 1 mixture too lean error
2) Sporadic misfire detected

ABS system

0 Fault/s detected

all more or less normal whilst using tesco petrol! - but might make other people panic.

You can also write to some registers, to make small adjustments and calibrations. Adjust Xenon range, turn off passenger air-bag (the wife), fiddle with factory alarm - Generally bugger it up if you like. I haven't seen specific central locking stuff.

Perhaps you can configure in software to make it lock when the car moves, I can make my alarm system do that.

Yeh, it's the moving off and getting the doors to lock.

have you got an SE spec?

I've only got the S, it explains the "no alarm and fogs and alloys"

Getting all that fitted though! 8)

Yeah, I made sure that I got what I wanted at the start. The problem was it had to have AC and all the trimmings, and it was quite difficult to find what I wanted. But I did.

Yes, that is all that is needed. But I haven't a clue how to do it. I avoid going into the airbag modules, because there is a chance that it will break the airbag, resulting in the light staying on, which is a MOT failure and requires fixing. So I stay away from them.

Besides, my airbag has her own car. Its a Saxo.

Hello

I use Vag Com. Nice piece of software.

I found www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk a usefully site to look up little "mods" eg the door locking. Personally i dont want it but i seen someone ask about it on another VAG. Check it out.

Neil.

Haven't Tried, but sounds useful, as I do lock the doors when I drive (Sometimes with a horrified look on my passengers faces!).

The only problem with vag-com at the moment is that my tablet PC has gone back to acer to be fixed. Some bright berk (My friend) noted that it needed a BIOS update to run Vista. After which my machine was a vegetable... Should get it back in a soon, and we shall see how it goes then!

Im certain the anti hijack and other 'nice' features cannot be activated unless the central convienance module is installed in the car, i.e. factory alarm or remote central locking as standard, think GTi only>?

m8, there is only one software - VAGCOM

this will allow you to program and fiddle with everything that is possible with your particular car, there is no software for each function, its all in one package

you will need the diagnostic cable to plug your car into a laptop that is running the VAGCOM software

genuine cables and fully licensed software is fairly expense, however 3rd party leads can be got from eBay and you can use the free version of VAGCOM software to do most of the things you will probably need, or buy the full version for extra functions

check the VAGCOM site out, www.ross-tech.com plenty of info there
