Upgrade Head Unit to CarPlay

Hi, I just recently bought a 12 Plate Polo, I'm guessing it is the most basic model (doesnt appear to be an aux connection on stereo, interior is basic, and the car doesnt have remote central locking)

My stereo currently looks like this one:


and am looking to upgrade it to one that is compatible with CarPlay (so I have access to functions like Navigation, Hands Free Phone, and of course listening to music from my iPhone)


is it possible to buy a more recent head unit from the 2016 Polos from eBay and install it? I'd rather be installing another VW stereo, as opposed to something like the Pioneer SPH-DA120.


Would be great if someone could get back to me sooner than later, I'm getting pretty bored of radio

anything is possible but to upgrade to a 2016 head unit, it'll be cheaper to buy a 2016 car with it already built in

i've got a 2015 polo and i can't even upgrade to car play

how is it cheaper to buy a car as opposed to a few hundred quid on the head unit?

Because there is no VW head unit with CarPlay that will easily drop into your model of polo

Only the 6C polo has CarPlay support with the new style radios which are, pretty much, not retrofittable into 6R polos

You would be better to go for the pioneer option (which is actually very good and has more features than the VW offerings)

You can buy one off eBay from China. Not heard much about them though, no idea if they're any good. Chinese radios typically don't have RDS (the display that tells you what station you're tuned to) and I'm not sure if all the frequencies are the same as they are here.

As above, it's not fully compatible with European vehicles. There's certain things that won't work, and there is little known about how they function

You could be the guinea pig though
