Cheap VCDs / VAG-COM

Anyone tried the cheap ebay vcds/vag-com kits? or should I just use a dealer or someone with a proper ross-tech kit?

For the newer cars, the knock off kits can actually do more damage than good

Thought that, it's really to do a bit of coding to the polo 6r and golf mk5 and then my mate wants a light code from a short circuit in his mk6 turned off.
