That's quite a difference in the outer position of the stock and the optional wheel, the optionals will sit 1cm further into the wheel well than the stock
Because of the slightly more aggressive offset of the standard Parabolica alloys, GTI's with these wheels have small black plastic extenders on the upper trailing edge of the rear wheel arches so the wheels don't protrude beyond the bodywork. GTI's that were fitted with the optional Serron alloys from the factory don't have these small plastic extenders.
The 6R Polo GTI had alloys that were also the same spec as the optional Serron and Motorsport alloys, and I think the Montani alloys fitted to the Blue GT model are also 7jx17, ET46.
Everyday's a school day. I'd noticed the black extenders on the rear arches but never put it down to them being there because of the stock wheel choice!
I've found a lovely set of BBS wheels but they are 17x7.5J ET48 but I'm concerned that keeping the 7.5" width the same and pulling them in 4mm could affect the steering I've used spacers before but they were an utter pain the backside.
Does this mean as the serrons are narrower by half an inch that the depth of the sidewall is slightly more than with the standard wheels? I think both have same tires so they must be stretched a little more on the stock wheels?
As far as I can see, stock size is 215/40/17 regardless of wheel size. It's only approx 13mm of a difference in wheel width which is unlikely to have any noticeable difference is overall diameter to the tyre once mounted.
Yes, tyre size is 215/40 x17 for both the standard Parabolca and optional Serron alloys.
I think the majority of GTI's came from the factory with Bridgestones, although the pictures of some of the nearly new GTI's I've seen on VW's website over the past 12-18 months have had Continentals.
Thanks well mine is only two week old. One of last gti three doors made according to dealer anyway. Built 9th May. Mine has the serron and came with the bridgestone on it
