Coilover /or/ Springs Recommendations ?

Hi Guys,
I wanna lower my car as i think when VW where designing it, they modeled it off a monster truck!

I'm not sure whats going to be the better option though, Coilovers or Springs

Also, how low is too low? I live in the Scottish Borders which is holier than a moon crater!

Budget is around £250 - although cheaper is better (within reason - I don't want something that will snap etc...)

With your budget I'd suggest H&R Supersport springs (the lower of the 2 options)

Coilovers at this price point are poor quality and the ride will be unbearable.
