Intermittent bulb issue

Car - VW Polo 1.2 60 MATCH
Issue - I have an intermittent issue with my car where the bulb maintenance light appears on my dashboard, I've narrowed this down to the rear running light being off (The brake is fine) however when I turn the car off and back on again, the warning light can disappear and the rear running light is on. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should try before taking this into the garage which will cost £36 for the diagnostic I was thinking of removing the light to make sure there's no condensation or dampness and giving the wires a little wiggle just in case they've fallen out of place?

yeah the tails lights do throw these errors when the light is in it's final part of its life or is subject to a bit of corrosion or wobble. a good old smack with the hand will solve it for a few days. maybe replace the lightbulb (it's a W5W) so it's gone for a while.

Update - Replaced the bulb and all working well.
