VW Polo 2010 6r 1.2 3 cylinder 60ps, 58k miles on the clock. When should I think about getting the timing chain replaced? Or is their no change interval, as in it should last the life of the car? I've read about the fault chains skipping a tooth at around 60k miles online, however my engine seems to be running fine.
Thanks!

These are notorious for failure. I’d get it replaced along with the upgraded tensioner mechanism to remove the risk of it failing and trashing the engine

Glad I read up about this fault before it was too late, why does the mechanism fail? I thought timing chains were meant to last for the life of the car

Its the tensioner that fails. Theres alot of threads on here detailing it - worth a read.
Re: Vw Polo 6r Timing Chain Interval
Do you recommend a certain tensioner mechanism along with a chain that I could order? Or will just any kit do the trick? Surprised that this issue isn't listed as a recall on the VW website!

There’s an updated part available. I’ll have a scout and see if I can find the part number
