Irratic starting issue (once every 2 weeks)

Post by jagzz88 »

Hi,

Im having issues starting the car every now and then. This 1st happened around a year ago when the car wouldn't start 1st time and took around 4-5 goes to get it up and running then the next week or so it would start 1st time ever time. Then the same problem again a week later and so on and so forth this happened in a 6 week period. Then it didnt happen for around 9-10 months and its started to happen again over the last month. When i turn the key the engine turns over and everything wants to start its like something is blocking it, take the keys out of the ignition and try again... repeat until it eventually starts. There no pattern as to when it doesn't start.

I wouldn't think it was the starter motor/battery and i had the spark plugs changed last summer. Im by far an expert but think it may be fuel delivery, anyone had a similar problem?????

The car has 32000 on the clock and has been serviced every year (2011 1.4 polo Match Petrol)

If you are meaning that the car engine is getting turned over but the engine is not firing, then this sort of thing has been caused in hot climates when there is a fault in the EVAP solenoid, maybe not logical, but true.

Now, the only thing here is, I'd doubt if you have been trying to start that car in what could be called a "hot climate" - but there you go!

Edit:- and I am referring to difficult starting of a 1.4 16V 86PS engine in summer ie hot conditions only.

It tends not to do it in the morning and tends to do it when i leave work at 5.00pm but has done it when the temperature is 7 - 10 degrees which is a bit baffling. Must admit when we had that scorching day a few Thursdays ago 26 degrees it was worse and took 6-7 turns on 2 occasions 2 hours apart (5.00pm ) & (7.00pm)

Thanks for the reply : )

I don't think that the fault I mentioned shows up in any diagnostic checks, it was someone in Portugal with an Ibiza (same engine), that got so fed up with things that he gambolled on it being the EVAP solenoid - replacing that solved his problems finally, and it seems sorted out another Ibiza owner's problem as well, again, strange as it might seem!

Edit:- other than that, the usual suspect is normally the engine coolant temperature sensor or a dribbling injector.
