Thanx for the advice... tell me more about unbolting the 'selector'GroovyCarrot wrote:Anything to do with gear selection (as long as it's not in the box itself..) will be easy to fix, the entire selection mechanism just bolts off the bottom of the car. If it's a 4 speed box, I've got a mechanism here you could have, only just taken it off the car
Mines another 5 speeder, same as my 92' CL

have you checked the engine runs ok now, yeah?
what kind of problem are you having with the gear selection? eg if you have to move the stick to odd places left/right compared to before, that may be fixable just with the bolt that's halfway along holding one piece of linkage to the other... had trouble with that one myself when it came loose (!) and everything but 3rd and 4th disappeared
quick poke about underneath and a bit of guesswork and haynesing, adjustable screwdriver and slotting the stick into what felt like a good place for 3rd gear before tightening it right up, sorted and jobs a goodun.
(better than before, even - not accidentally selecting the wrong one out of 1st & Reverse any longer
)

5 speed selectors are a bit more of a pain to set up in the right position than 4 speeds, but it's just a bit more trial and error really.
The mechanism is held to the bottom of the car with four nuts below the gearstick. You'll find it if you trace the gear change rod back from the gearbox to the black box under the gearstick. Remove these bolts, then remove the clamp that holds the rod into the linkage with the gearbox, and pull the rod backwards to remove it from the linkage, then the whole lot will just pull out of the bottom of the car, gearstick and all (make sure to remove the knob and gaiter first
). Either you could replace it with one from a scrap yard or you could see if you can work out the problem yourself.. but what exactly is wrong with the gearchange anyway?
