ignition switch

Post by BenMMellor »

Yet another gremlin in the Polo.

Spent an hr trying to get the damn thing started this afternoon. Called the AA out - who after near 40 mins found it to be the ingnition switch on the key barrel..

any ideas how to replace one of these ? could do with saving the £60/ hr that the local VW place wants to charge to fit it.

I got stung with that too.

£80 in labour from the garage, looking at the receipt the actual part only cost about £20.

yeah I can get the part from EuroCarParts tomorrow or wednesday.. ideally i'd like to try this one myself. but can't see how to get the exisitng switch off. it's a piece of p*** on fords...

been quoted at least 30 mins to 1hr labour by the local VW specialist - not sure if my local place who i usually use will be able to fit me in for a week or so.

When I kicked off about the labour charge been so much they said something about, the wheel and column had to come off and a gasket or something had seized. It was over 2 years ago and i was really listening cause i was raging at them.

Seems a bit suspect looking back on it now.
