What are your thoughts on this?

Post by Polo-03 »

I am going to up grade my sounds and had a look at this on ebay! I dont really no too much about subs and amps etc... I cant have a sub in the boot because i have to carry alot of stuff so there isnt enough room for one in there. I thought this was a good idea as it doesnt take up alot of room and can be fitted under the seat. I dont know how good the sound would be from it though. Anyone know anything bout these or even something they could suggest?

you could always put the sub in the spare wheel well and hope you dont get a puncture (beware sods law) or you could get high power shelf speakers and mount an amp under the parcel shelf (with an extra supporting bit of wood) or tight in the boot. i dont really trust stuff like that bit of a gimmick and its not that powerful. decent bass orientated shelf speakers and a little amp would make you happy im sure

So basicly its a pile of sh1te!? I dont want to "mod" anything in the car ie parcel shelf etc.., Plus half the time I need to run around with out the parcel shelf on so it would be no good there. What about bass tubes? Are they any good? As they dont need to be fixed down and I can move that about in my boot, it dosent need to be fixed down does it?

You could get one of those subs with the amp built into the enclosure - think it might go under the name of an 'active' sub? I've been looking at these myself but have yet to calm down and save some hard-earned to get one  but the idea behind my train of thought is that, once wired up, you can simply unplug it and lift it out when carrying cargo that requires all your boot space.

Secondly, Pioneer have just released some new 'flat' 10" subs - you might be able to squeeze them into the rear 3/4 panels, at the expense of any speakers already there?

EDIT: finally, if you want to keep the appearance of not having modified the car, what about a stealth shelf? The trade-off is that you won't be able to have all this extra bass and stuff when you remove the shelf!

Auto Acoustics (sp) do boxes that are moulded to the edge of your boot which take up hardly any (useful) storage space.

Auto Acoustics 'Stealth Box' Page

PS dont worry if your models not listed, they are quite keen to develop new fitments - ask on here first if anyone else is interested and you might get a discount.

Hope that helps
