Im looking to get a 1.4cl engine in my mk 4 polo and then have it converted to a turbo.
How much do you reckon i can expect to pay for this?

why turbo ?????
i think G chargers are better
but either way u need to lower the compression quite a lot there is a few ways of doing this 1 is to use smaller pistons
and then for a turbo you need to make some pipe work up for exhaust to bolt turbo too and the more pipe work from turbo to iduction
i thinks G charger will be cheaper cos you prob be able to rob most the stuff of either a G60 OR G40
and turbo u get turbo lag not a good thing when racing around on G you dont

couple of options really
don't bother supercharging it. A) its looooooads more expensive and B) you might as well just transplant the full G40 (or G60
)block
Turbo conversion kits are readily available, one good company to look at is Rothe Motorsport - these provide off the shelf kits to convert a lot of VW engines to turbo power, you'll be looking at a price of between £1000 - £2000.
As for lag, you will only notice large amounts of lag on a larger turbo. But if your keeping the 1.4 displacement you wont be fitting *too* big a turbo.
For an idea of how the car will drive try and test pilot a Renault 5 GT Turbo...

Owning a turbo motor (not the polo) there is no way I'd want to turbo a Polo 1.4 8VMusicfreek2002 wrote:Im looking to get a 1.4cl engine in my mk 4 polo and then have it converted to a turbo.

As the saying goes - "ain't no substitute for cubes"
Bigger engine will give far greater gains in drivability across the whole rev range......
I've driven a R5 turbo (go cart on cheap steriods) - back to back against a 1.6 GTi Pug (go cart on better steriods) and I bought the pug on the grounds that at least when you pressed the loud pedal at less than 3000 rpm it did respond slightly. Performance from both was similar as long as you were ragging them - drive them around when the traffic is heavy and progress is slow and the R5 will piddle you off quicker than you can imagine
The more I look at the 1.4 8V engine the more I think it's gonna be pretty hard to tune in any way shape or form induction side (inlet ports mainly are designed to promote torque and are far too small to get good bhp from)

"ain't no substitute for cubes" not true, a very good friend of mine runs a Micra with a reworked 1.3 to 1.4 engine. This cars runs a T25, plus lots of other bits
It runs around the 200'ish bhp mark which isn't bad
The biggest bit to think about is the fueling setup, uprated pump, something like a sard fuel pressure regulator, much larger injectors etc the micra runs 480cc injectors and they a just about at max duty I think.
Remember it'll get hot in there
Si

Don't think so - not on a 1.4 8V anyway - NOS might be the way to go - maybe!!!!david burton wrote:a turbo-ed 1.4cl would work out a lot cheaper than a whole engine transplant, it seems. people quote about 6k for a transplant, and a turbo seems to be about 2k.
so surely a turbo would be a better bet over a gti engine transplant?

Id go for the Turbo conversion. My mate has a Punto Gt turbo which is over 200BHP and has silly Torque figures. It is within the Top 10 Fastest Gt's in the Uk (6thor 7th). And it gives a lot of cars a surprise Including Gti Turbo Golfs and Nova 2.0 with 223BHP.
Plus the Gti engine doesnt Go "pshh" when you change gear.
