Xenon Bulb Problem!

I'm gonna sound like a complete novice, but I've fitted the Philips sidelights into my numberplate, but I don't see a difference in colour compared to the stock lights, other than the Philips ones are slightly less yellow, is there a reason why

As long as the free side light bulbs were bluish in colour, that is as white as they get when on, certainly better than the yellowy/orangy originals.

They were blue, I see now thanks

Well that was a disappointment, fitted the Philips bulbs and they are the exact same as the stock ones I had, that slight yellow colour, the ones from eBay were very white. Oh well I'll just have to stick with them till I get my new car.

I bet they were not very bright though. It's very difficult to get a crisp white light from filament lamps with out blocking most of the useful light.

See I can't remember how bright my stock ones looked like, but I will say that the philips ones are just slightly whiter than my stock ones, and tbh these ones hide the marks my headlights have compared to the eBay ones. Now I just need to try and clean my car in the rain ready for the meet tonight. Once again thanks everyone for the help.

So what are the bulbs best non LED bulbs to buy? I like the look of the ones which have a blueish look too them when you see them?

If you bought the Philips Extreme/Ultras or whatever they are called, I can assure you that they are a lot whiter and brighter than the standard Philips Premium bulbs that VW Group etc fit at the factory, with the light output being a lot higher than the original bulbs - that is if seeing where you are going is the object of this bulb change.

I'd think that the cheap bulbs that you initially bought for the head lights would not be giving out too much in the way of useful light, just looking the part and possible an MOT failure if you were not lucky.

Philips Ultra and Osram Nightbreaker are the two standard bulbs that most people pick if it is an improvement to their factory fitted head light bulbs light output they are looking for. Both these companies know a lot about designing and manufacturing vehicle bulbs.

I was referring to the eBay special lamps not the Philips lamps about being not very bright.

The osram nightbreakers lasers are about the best about imho.
They fill the lamps with pure xenon gas to allow the filament to get as hot as possible. There is a trade off in lamp life but there not that expensive to replace a little more often.
