Post by Andy1273 »

What tyre size can I fit to a genuine VW alloy wheel 17 inch Rim Size: 17 Inch
PCD: 5 x 100 mm
Rim width: 7
Offset: 46

Are 215/40 r17 the only option ?

I’d say so, which way would you be going away from that preferred size, going wider a size might be possible with 7J rims but would you find a lower profile to keep the rolling diameter correct, similarly which narrower higher tyre could you buy to keep the rolling diameter correct?

Other dimensions which should work are 205/45 and 205/40. 195/45 should also work, but this is a very unusual dimension for 17".

So the 205/45 , less width, but slightly more rubber in tyre wall height?

Exactly. The diameter will not change much (sidewalls will lean a bit more inwards than with 215/40, which compensates for part of the increased sidewall height).

Now thinking 215/45 R17 , little more profile than 215/40 R17's and with eibach springs should fill up the arch better?
