8 inch rims!!! I'd say tyres will look like V on the rimsukeuropolo wrote:aight people, i've brought my polo and i tinkin bout lowering but i wondered if any of u's could tell me, how low you would go on 14x8 195/45.nice one
I've got a link somewhere that tells you the minimum tyre size for rim width - I was sure 195 was the minimum for a 7 inch rim let alone an 8 inch rim (but me memory ain't as good as it used to be!!!!!)
Have you got the ET dimensions handy?
This is a handy link if you are into wheel swaps

Can't be bl**dy safe either - tyre walls must be near 45 deg from vertical!!!Speedlaw wrote:I'm running 165's on a 7 inch wide wheel.
I've seen 175 on a 9 inch, and 215 on a 10 inch as well. Now that is insane.
Falme suit on (Nomex)
Sorry but tyre manufacturers specify min & max rim widths for a reason - mainly safety - if you go outside their recomendations you are dodgy ground
Flame suit off
Besides you don't get any kerbing protection for the alloy rims so you gotta be real carefull of the rims get mullered
JM2pW and I don't want to get into a row - if thats what floats your boat so be it - I can appreciate it......

According to my little bible on wheels and tyres (still can't find the website I was looking for!!!!) 165 (assuming /65 13's here) shouldn't be mounted on a rim wider than 6.0Speedlaw wrote:I'm running 165's on a 7 inch wide wheel.

175's on a 9 inch is mad 2 inches wider than recomended
215's on a 10 inch is 2.5 inches wider than recommended
Revises estimate of angle of tyre wall to 60 deg from vertical!!!! and chances of rim damage whist parking to odds on!!!!
Mind you advantage is - get the offset right and even lowered less chance of rubbing!

I can understand that bit - makes pefect sense but those wheels you posted must have special rims to locate the tyre bead away from the rim?Speedlaw wrote:That's exactly it - you can lower your car more and still not rub. It also looks really good (to me at least), because it makes the wheel lookwider than it really is.
Neither have I - untill some idiot in a white van caused me to take evasive action one day and then I did two wheels very badly and was gutted.........Speedlaw wrote:I agree that on a normal car it's unwise, as you'll curb the wheel in no time, but I've never curbed wheels in my life.
I don't really know the story with that wheel, it could be just the shape of the wheel allowing the tyre to sit so far away from the lip, but who knows?bstardchild wrote: I can understand that bit - makes pefect sense but those wheels you posted must have special rims to locate the tyre bead away from the rim?

If you look at the inside of the dish the lip _/ has a double step so I am assuming that the 2nd step provides the seating for the tyre bead.....so the outer rim edge is predominantly cosmetic!!!!Speedlaw wrote:I don't really know the story with that wheel, it could be just the shape of the wheel allowing the tyre to sit so far away from the lip, but who knows?
