6C GTI Unbelieveably Good Tyre Wear

Post by Gee40 »

Just checked on the tyre wear on the fronts and after just over 13k miles I cant believe there is still 3-4 mm tread left.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, but for a car with such performance, produced by fairly epic torque, I'm struggling to understand how its so kind to the tyres. I don't drive it like I've stolen it all the time as I like my licence and want to keep it, but I do enjoy the car on a reasonably frequent basis. Are the roads around the High Peak in Derbyshire infused with Oil of Olay or have others seen similar lack of tyre wear.

Merry Xmas to all by the way

I've done 17k in my gti and burnt through the original bridgstone s001's , as set of goodyear gsd3's and the rear s001's and now on a set of goodyear asymetric 3

so you are doing very well.

DSG or manual ?

New wheels and Continental tyres fitted to my GTI 14.5k miles ago. 4 to 5 mm of tread left on the fronts and 6mm on the rears.

Its a manual with the full vindaloo torque output which is why I was so surprised at the wear rate. Many Years ago I had a Volvo T5 (family circumstances) that I struggled to get more than 4k miles from the fronts or 20MPG! and I wonder why Ive not got myself a Caribbean Island retreat!

Youhavnt said what kind of tyre youve got, the rest of us want some

On the subject of tyre whats are people opinion on "pirellis" and also can tyres made by kama still be bought anywhere?
currently having been disapointed by other so called brand tyres and im now on budget "round and blacks" but fondly remember the time when i rembered these russian tyres made by "kama" which literaly lasted on a prevoius car three years instead of on. The rubber felt as hard as plastic like what you find on some plant machinery and were unfazed by potholes glass screws on anything i drove over. The only down side was the grip really but this is solved by sensible driving. They were cheap as well!
Also once used avons which gave pathetic tyre life and punctured really easily

I'm afraid the tyres are nothing exotic - just the standard Bridgestone's straight from the factory
