Yeah I’m guessing those time frames I said were their worst case scenarios, at the top end of how long it can take. That’s why I wanted to get an idea of how long others have waited. I can only hope it takes 12 days! I’ve been waiting since 10th February 2018

EmmaBx wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2019 1:12 pm Finally got an update today - my car is due in Emden on 13/04. Customer service say once there it can take 15 working days to be loaded onto a ship and then once it’s arrived in the UK it can take 7-10 working days to reach the dealer.

Can anyone who’s received theirs tell me roughly how long it took from Emden to being in their hands? How long is the journey to the UK? Mine will be going to Sheerness.
I’ve just looked at the tracker text messages I received last month.

My car arrived in Emden on Sunday 10th March.

It left Emden for Sheerness on Thursday 14th March and arrived in Sheerness late on Friday 15th March.

It arrived at the dealer on Wednesday 20th March and was ready for me to collect 48 hours later (Friday 22nd).

So it was only 12 days from arriving in Emden until I collected it. I think they’re giving you a worst case scenario and you should hopefully have the car by the end of the month.
This is really helpful info, thanks both! Will hope for 12 days as well with an extra couple of days thrown in for Easter

I should also mention that my salesman said a lot of cars had been ordered to the UK for March delivery by the main dealers for stock; worries about Brexit made them order these in-case the expected leave date caused any issues (whether that’s true or not, I don’t know - but it did mean more cars bound for the UK apparently). Therefore the turnaround in Emden was quite quick. The ship from Emden to Sheerness was Malacca Highway, which seems to do the trip quite often.

On a positive note, the GTI is definitely worth the wait - although I did find the wait and delays infuriating. I’ve had mine for a few weeks now and have crossed the 620 miles (1000km) mark, so am starting to use it a little more aggressively. It’s a joy to drive. Everything feels so well put together and I’ve had no issues at all. Took me a while to understand the DSG and how it responds to throttle input, but I think I’m starting to gel with it now.

Hey guys, my gti is on the Grand Dahlia en route to Emden. I was wondering if someone can tell me why they go to Germany first rather than straight to the UK? Is it purely a logistical thing?

Vehicle production checks are carried out there before the last leg of the journey to the dealerships.

Maybe I am missing the point here but that sounds daft to bring them all the way from SA for production checks? Why dont they do that in SA ? What happens if they find issues?? Send them back to SA ?

I was told this is nothing to do with checks but because the carriers have both left hand / right hand drive models onboard destined for UK and European markets so they seperate them in Emden and tranship the right hand models to the UK.

So still trying to find out where my car is in transit? Any suggestions to which ship or part of journey? I thought it might have been Glovis Spring but now read that's a cargo ship and not a vehicle carrier according to a site I visited. My car went from "build week confirmed" to "In Transit" on Fri 15th March. Tracker not changed since.

I'd give your dealership an email. Thats what I did and they gave me the name of the boat its on, then you can track the boat online.

Hope this helps.

Glovis spring is deffo a Car Carrier - when and if you get a vessel name you can track check via:

Chris001 cheers. I used this link before. its described on another site as "cargo ship" with others described as "vehicle carrier" I just assumed Glovis Spring maybe not a car carrier. Its not moved for few days now. So again hoping mine taken off and put onto another vessel for UK?? So which one ?

Mine is on the Glovis Crown.
Due into Vigo, Spain 14th April, therefore Emden 18th given experiences of others on here.
