Help!!!! Polo 2010 1.2 car wont start

Post by christine_x7 »

Desperate news of help.car been driving fine used it friday morning came home parked car. Then mechanic came to look at my rear shoe as car not holdibg properly on hills he had a look gave me price and put wheel back on. Then I asked him to just start car so he can see himself about handbrake issue then car wudnt start. It made a funny sound started then cut off then just doesn't start now. I had no warning lights. I always top up oil wen warning light comes on but no lights had appeared at all on dash. He checked my oil and said it was very low hardly any on dipstick he could see a bit at the end so he topped this up. I told him I have had no warning light about oil and as soon as I do I always top it up until light goes off as I worry about overfilling. So he done a diagnostic and it came up camshaft sensor fault. But he said that could mean alot of diff things. Anyone any idea wat I could try or has this issue Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee no smell at all no burning no smoke. Working fine before this happened.

Hi, welcome to this forum!

Seeing as no one else has posted a reply, I'll jump in - which engine is in that car, is it the 3 cylinder 1.2 petrol engine or the 4 cylinder 1.2TSI petrol engine?

If it is the 1.2 3 cylinder engine, and it is getting run without the correct amount of oil in it, then it might have suffered a timing change due to the chain jumping a tooth or more, in normal use it seems that that should not now be possible due to improvements to parts - but maybe it has.

You say that you top up the oil as soon as the oil warning appears, that is a bad plan, you really do need to start checking the engine oil level while it is parked on level ground and make sure that it never ends up getting low enough to hand out an oil pressure warning.

I'd hope by now that you have this car taken in to get sorted, if so any updates?

It's a three cyclinder. No not taking in yet. Still parked in drive. If it's the timing chain issue then what is the solution. Do I need to get a new cyclinder head or engine?

If it was a timing chain "jumping" and messing up the engine timing, it should only, if your lucky, need the engine retimed, though the root cause of why it ended up like that should be worked out and sorted so that it does not do that again, but remember it might be some other simpler issue, diagnosing these engine issues remotely is in most cases, not going to work, it needs someone who understands engines and maybe these engines and work on it.
