Another Throttle body problem :(

Post by 89Rallye »

Hi Guys and Gals,

My Girlfriends Mk4 Polo has been cutting out on start up and running lumpy for the past few months.

Anyway I have changed the oil and filters etc today and found that the butterfly on in the TB was gunged up as I thought it would be, anyway stripped the butterfly out and cleaned it all out with brake cleaner/degreaser.

Long story short, stuck it all back together, fire up fine now BUT  its ticking over at 1100 rpm (not choke) and when driving it seems to stick at 1300 rpm when braking (pretty dangerious) before dropping back to 1100 rpm.

Was speaking to someone in the car trade and they say it will need setting up on a machine??

Have I made a simple mistake?? and is there a simple solution.

Cheers

This ALLWAYS happens.

Dont worry about it, it will settle and correct itsself in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime I would suggest disconnecting your battery over night so the ecu can reset itself and adjust to any changes.

Also make sure your butterly is sitting corectly, as it can often stay slightly open if not in right.

Thanks Criz,

I took the air box etc off twice in the end to make sure everything underneath is sitting correctly

Its booked in tommorow to go onto a machine to be looked at, cause my girlfriend isnt too happy and she does alot of mileage in the car so it needs to be right. Worst thing is she is using my Lupo while the polo is off the road

Thanks for the advice i'll go and disconnect the battery now.

Cheers
