May be picking up a GT tonight!

Post by Petrified »

Hello!

I may be picking up a GT tonight or tomorrow, anything to look out for? Everything runs smoothly, infact the engine started up first time after 3 weeks of not being used. Brakes are crap but then from what I remember they all are.

Also what sort of price would you think for a Black GT (excellent bodywork) 70,000 miles 3 lady owners. Totally standard.

Cheers James.

I've never had a mk4 :?

I had a 6n2 then a 9n the part-ex'd it for a CTR!!

I'm getting it as a cheap run around and to stop me modding my CTR for a year or two.

I'll be getting it tomorrow now. At least I can turn up at the polo show in a polo :P I knew I couldn't last long without a vw!

And I have a spare Kodama for it!

I'll get some pictures of it tomorrow.

Couple of things you might wanna look out for...

1) Water/petrol can collect under the arch trims and underseal and leave you with rust problems. Keep a good eye out for this.

2) Also check the runners above the rear lights as dirt can collect, block the runners and cause rust too. These problems seem to be less severe with metallic cars.

3) Check where the petrol filler neck connects to the tank as they rust through.

4) Check the back of the battery for rust

5) Check round the window rubbers for signs of a respray

6) check in the boot for the boot sticker and to see if the boot floor has any bends/ripples in it (signs of accident damage).

7) Check the front wings for the VW logo and clips each side

8) Check the bonnet for the rubber buffers when it's closed

I checked and the petrol tank was replaced in 2002 :D

I've now got it sitting outside my house. I'll get some pics, havn't been able to yet because it keeps getting dark and they come out too blurry.

Now then. MODS!!

I think some clear indicators will do to start

Looks smart mate.

All I would do is lower 40mm, fit clear indicators, smoked side repeaters and smoked rear clusters. Oh and play with the engine a bit, but thats me.

looks weel smaat!

clear indicators start from about £15 all in for the fronts and maybe £60 a pair for rears, though quality may be suspect on them. from GSF if i remember right, though they were having mega supply problems (IE DHL were playing piggy in the middle with the parcel) last time i bothered to check..

It depends on GSF. Metz got a good deal and a matching pair. I on the other hand had supply problems with mine, so one side was sourced from another warehouse and is lighter than the other side. Doh!
