Hi James,

I believe electronic and manual immobiliers are Cat 2 systems only

Hope that helps

hey there

cheers for your help, but i rang gap security about getting a Cat1 Clifford avatel maxx 1 and they said that on mk4 the key coded immobiliser is not Cat approved at all. So had to have the whole kit alarm and immobiliser :( As long as it keeps the thieving chavs knicking my car i dont mind :D

To be honest i would have recommended that anyway - the clifford imobiliser is much better than the VW one.

glad you got it sorted :)

I've been reliably informed that the uprated models (1998 onwards?) all have cat2 immobilisers - so you should be able to get a cat2 to cat 1 upgrade which is a lot cheaper.

no that was for the original posters question!

you'll have to ring for a quote. I'm sure fitting costs about 80 quid.
