what replaces the 6c Blue GT

Post by avitmark »

Hi All,

New to the forum,
I currently drive a 2014 Blue Gt 6c, which I find great and meets my needs. I want to replace it with a new mk10 model polo ( I only keep my cars 5yrs), but it appears they do not do this blue gt model in the mk 10.
Does anyone know if there are plans to release a blue gt model if not what is the equivalent model in the mk10 range.

Thanks for any advice

If Iam right then Blue GT is 1,4TSI 4cyl with option to disable 2 cylinders right? If so, then equivalent would probably be new 1,5TSI EVO (4cyl with option to disable 2 cylinders, 110kw and 250nm, DSG only). Iam not sure if 1,5 EVO is already avaiable in UK. If not than it should be soon.

// BTW: There is some issue with this engine. I saw a lot of skoda and golf owners talking about unexpected jerkines in combination with DSG while engine is warm. VW even stopped offering them for a few months but I don't know if they solved it. And another problem is price at least in my country. I build 2 polos with closest possible options to mine ... GTI was cheaper by 1000 pounds

From a performance and economy pov your only choice really is a 1.0tsi 115 R-Line (or maybe a Beats?) , still.no 1.5tsi in uk Polo's.

Yes, the spiritual successor to the 6c Polo Blue GT is probably the Polo 1.5 EVO R-Line if it ever appears in the UK.

A 1.5 Polo R-Line was initially included in VW’s UK online configurator around the end of 2017 / beginning of 2018 but it was very quickly removed. It was only available with DSG transmission. Interestingly, a 1.5 EVO engined Seat Ibiza was offered with 6 speed manual transmission (no DSG option) in FR trim, but this model also seems to have disappeared from the Ibiza model line up.

I’ve read of Issues of jerkiness / kangaroo-ing primarily when the 1.5 EVO engine is mated to a manual gearbox. It’s covered on many VAG forums. A Google search on ‘1.5 EVO engine kangarooing issues’ will show it seems to be quite a widespread issue.

If the 1.5 EVO engine does eventually appear in the Polo R-Line in the UK, then as Dark-cze has said, its likely price point will probably make it look poor value compared to the GTI / GTI+, although I accept that not everyone wants a GTI / GTI+.

^ just to add to the above, it does seem to be almost exclusively an issue when the 1.5EVO has a manual box, but also, almost exclusively with the 130ps variant, not the 150ps. We were considering an Ibiza 1.5EVO FR in April 2018 and the local SEAT dealerships seemed to be hamstrung with WLTP, unable to order anything but a few low output 1.0TSI variants.

Thanks all for the info, I had heard about the issues with the 1.5 engine but did not realise it was only with the manual box.

Looks like I have got to do more homework or keep the blue gt longer than I would normally do , but it is fairly bullet proof.

Or perhaps consider a GTI / GTI+, bearing in mind if a 1.5 EVO engined Polo R-Line is produced for the UK market, it’ll probably end up with a list price that’s higher than the list price of the GTI.
