So I just picked up my first ever VW yesterday. A Polo BlueGT.
So far everything is great there just a few things that have me a bit puzzled and I was wondering if anyone here could answer them?
First 1. When I get out the car after a drive I have a ting, ting, ting, ting coming from under the car, its as if something metal is hitting something that is also metal and making the ting sound. Any idea what this could be?
2nd One: When I'm driving at higher speeds I can sometimes hear what I think its like a fainting humming sound from the back of the car. Now having never had a VW before I don't know if its just general noise or something else, maybe I'm being paranoid. It just doesn't sound right to me. Again any suggestions as to what it could be?
I got it from a VW dealership in Derby and have 3 years warranty on it but if I'm just being silly and these things are easily explainable I don't want to waste their time.

Re: Minor Niggles/Questions with My First Polo
The tick tick tick noises will just be the exhaust cooling off, normal on many cars from all marques.
I can't comment on the humming from the rear though, tyre noise or bearings, along with inadequate sound deadening?

Hi as said previously, the ting ting is just exhaust / manifold cooling down.
I would say the humming is just road noise.
What sort of mpg are you getting in your BlueGT?

Re: Minor Niggles/Questions with My First Polo
The answers so far seem spot on to me. If there is a problem other than road noise, a bearing would be the chief suspect - what mileage has the car done? Although not always the case, if a bearing is just starting to fail, it will often be silent when you first start off but will start to get noisy as it heats up over the first few miles
